Green Card Visa Requirements

A green card is something you need if you want to live in the United States of America and your home country is any country other than the U.S. A green card is a legal document that a person can use as proof that the immigrant is a legal and permanent resident of the United States. It is also proof that the individual is allowed all the benefits that are offered to all US citizens. However they are not allowed to vote. The green card is issued by The Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration. The process to obtain a card can be long and very in depth.

You can acquire this card by applying for it using a form. You can apply for a green card to come the United States in order to be with family, because of a job, you are getting married, granted asylum, or the lottery.

If you want to come to the United States to work, you need to have a temporary resident card. You will first need to find a job and the employer will need to sponsor your green card. The employment skills will fall into one of these categories- EB-1, EB-2, EB-3, EB4, or EB-5. These categories represent extraordinary skills such as education, athletics/sports, science, arts, or business.

There are four steps to the process of approving the green card application. There is labor certification, a petition for immigration, consular processing, and the final approval stage. If you are coming to the United States to be with family, your family member can sponsor you. A family member includes a spouse, siblings, children, or parents. In order to sponsor you, a family member will need to fill out Form I-130. This will be a petition for you to come over to the USA.

Family consists of any immediate family member; a spouse, child under the age of 21 that is not married, or parents. Any refugee that enters the USA and would like to become a permanent resident will need to apply for residency. They must wait for one year after the date they come into the United States.

This card lottery may sound unbelievable but it is true. Each year the United States government will award a total of 50,000 cards. As long as you meet the criteria you will qualify for a card. When you participate you will not need to pay for your green card.
