“Life takes Visa”. The motto for Visa credit cards apparently is true, as no matter where you go it seems that you can use a Visa card there. As of 2006, Visa controlled 44% of the credit card market, as well as 48% of the debit card market. Within the last few years, Visa has also introduced “Prepaid” cards, which work much like a gift card that can be used anywhere that accepts Visa. This allows parents that want to give teens money that they cannot easily lose an alternative. The prepaid Visa cards also can be refilled, and have many of the same advantages of a regular Visa, minus the checking account and PIN number.
Not only is visa well accepted around the world, but they also sponsor many events and contests worldwide. The 2008 Olympics are sponsored by Visa, as well as the NFL. They also recently awarded $10,000 in a scholarship for the “Young Entrepreneur of the Year” contest. Also, currently if you pay your bills with Visa, you have the chance to win $25,000. With prizes like these, who wouldn’t enter?
Visa also has a good system when it comes to anti-theft. You can call their hotline (1-866-ID-HOTLINE) for free assistance, and you can contact your bank to shut off your card at any time. Also, if you’ve lost your card you can have them shut the card off at any time to prevent card usage by anyone but you.
Visa also has an amazing amount of online discounts. Whether you’re looking for books, toys, shoes, or even car rental, Visa has you covered there. Some offers are buy one get one free whereas others are receiving free shipping. There’s an endless amount of discounts for you to discover. Check Visa’s online discount page for some of their amazing deals, and make sure to check often as they change frequently.
The Buxx card: a prepaid card just for teens. Apparently, when Visa released the prepaid cards they realized that the biggest customers were teenagers, Thus where the Buxx cards comes in. The Buxx card is a prepaid card with parental controls. Imagine a regular prepaid card with a way to monitor what was bought with it. The main selling point of the Buxx card is that it’s a “Convenient and flexible way to pay” and that it’s “safer than cash”. Similar things can be said about the normal prepaid Visa, but for parents that want to keep an eye on what their teen is buying this is a good route to go.
Lastly, freebies. Visa wants to get your business, and commonly will offer a free gift when you sign up with them. Take advantage of these opportunities, as some of the offers are good. Recent offers included a year subscription to a magazine of your choice, where as another was no payments for the first year of having your card. Hopefully with these benefits, you will look into getting a Visa card for yourself or a prepaid Visa card for others.
